RequiredFirst-Year ExperienceProgramPolicy
TheFirst-Year Experience program is designed to introduce new students to the
academic, social, and cultural community at Clayton StateUniversity. In an effort
to help students adjust to college life and ensure success, all first-time traditional
students are required to participate in a first-year learning community and
complete this program during the first semester at Clayton State. Students will
select from a variety of thematic learning communities consisting of threeor four
core curriculum courses. Each community also includes
CSU 1022 – University
Foundations,
a college success course taught by the leader of the learning
community. University Foundations refines academic goals, encourages a
greater sense of personal responsibility, creates intentional learners, and
provides the information and support that students need to earn a college
degree. This discussion-based seminar helps students to learn how to improve
their basic skills inareas suchaswritten communication, oral communicationand
critical thinking. Students must earn a grade of a D or better in the University
Foundations course.
First-year students who decide to enroll in less than twelve semester hours can
meet this requirement by enrolling in an individual section of CSU 1022-
UniversityFoundations during their first semester.
