Within a framework concerning the historical and conceptual aspects of “la
Francophonie,” students will study the cultures and literatures of countries or regions
where French is used either as an official language or is the language of a significant
segment of the population. In the second part of the semester, the course will
concentrate on one specific area (for instance, the Caribbean, or West Africa, or
Quebec, etc., on a rotating basis). Conducted inFrench.

This course studies particular topics or themes in French or Francophone
language, literature, culture or civilization not covered in other upper-division French
