The course will introduce students to significant trends in Spanish American literature
from colonial times to the present and will acquaint students with the major social,
historical, and literary influences on the development of that literature, with an
emphasis on teaching students to read critically and develop their analytical writing

This course will introduce students to selected, thematic readings of the literature of

This course will study the development and construction of Spanish culture and

This course will introduce students to the diverse cultures of Spanish America from
their inception in the Conquista to the present in a study of the political, social and
artistic components that contributed to the unique cultural development of Spanish
