Admission
Thebasic licensureBSDH track is available to recent high school graduates,
non-traditional students, current Clayton State students, and transfer students
whomeet Universityadmission requirements.
TheBSDH program expands the clinically based outcomes, characteristic of
associate level training, into a more broad-based foundation for future career
growth. Graduates are qualified to seek employment as clinicians, office
managers, public health hygienists, researchers, and marketers and have the
opportunity topursuegraduate studies.
Dental Hygiene application is separate from University application and
admission. Admission is competitiveand space is limited. Students areadmitted
each fall semester intoa full-time four semester program.
Minimum admission requirements include (details on the Department of
Dental Hygienewebsite):
1. Collegegradepoint average (GPA) of 2.50on4.00 scale.
2. Completion of 45 semester hours of BSDH core curriculumwith grades
of C (or K or S) or better in all natural and behavioral science,math and
AreaF courses at the timeof application and 60 semesters hours at the
timeof enrollment indental hygieneprogram.
3. Successful completionof the legislative requirements.
4. Satisfactory completion of dental officeobservation, admission interview
andwriting assessment.
5. Satisfactory evidence of overall health status including eye-exam
consistent with theperformance standards for dental hygiene.
6. Eligible for clearanceon criminal background check and drugscreening.
