Drameka Griggs
THE HERO RETURNS TO HER “NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL”
Drameka Griggs began her journey with Clayton State University as a fresh- man in high school, attending all the basketball team camps. It was during
by Ciji Fox
this time that Coach Dennis Cox and Coach Kaleena Coleman first saw her play. Griggs is now a sophomore major- ing in criminal justice at Clayton State,
and a hometown star on the women’s basketball team. Most of her team- mates call her "Little MeMe" and the rest of the team calls her “Rondo" (after Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics.) Her mother, Waikeeta Flagg, and her younger sister, Triounis Griggs, both of Ellenwood, are her biggest fans. In fact, Griggs’ mother taught her some of her basketball skills.
“For as far back as I can remem- ber my mom has been changing my shot every chance she gets,” Griggs says. “I’m not really a great shooter, which is why they call me ‘Rondo,’ but the mid-range jumper I do have came from my mother.
“I’m an energetic, fast pace type of player. I like to bring a lot of energy off the bench and get the game going up and down. Also, I like to pressure the ball and lead with defense.”
