Clayton State University Vice
President for External Relations Kate
Troelstra has announced that Director
of Development Reda Rowell will be
leaving Clayton State at the end of
November to become the Executive
Director of the Georgia Southwestern
Foundation at Georgia Southwestern
State University in Americus, Ga.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for
Reda, but we will miss her,” says
Troelstra. “For the past 16 years Reda
has been committed to Clayton State
University; first in Continuing
Education, then in External Relations.
During her time with development she
has created endowments, hosted
fundraising and recognition events,
and secured resources for every col-
lege and division
on campus. Clayton
State is better off
because of her
efforts.”
Rowell is an April
2012 graduate of
the
University
System
of
Georgia’s (USG)
eight-month-long
Executive Leadership Institute (ELI), a
comprehensive 120-hour development
program conducted by leading experts in
leadership that allows scholars to enhance
their leadership skills to prepare for
potential high-level advancement within
the USG. During the ELI program,
Rowell’s job shadow leader was Dr. Tim
Mescon, president of Columbus State
University. Rowell spent a total of 40
hours with Mescon in a multitude of
activities.
The ELI targets the most talented indi-
viduals currently in faculty and staff
leadership positions such as chair,
dean, executive director (or equiva-
lent) and above. It is designed exclu-
sively for high potential individuals
who desire to progress into senior
leadership roles. Development activi-
ties closely align with a competency
model, which includes skills identified
as critical to the success of leaders
transitioning into more complex mana-
gerial roles.
