The Wellness Council encourages you to take
advantage of the many opportunities available on
campus to reach your wellness goals. It all begins
with YOU!

Program (EAP) to all benefits eligible employees
and their immediate family members. The EAP is a
behavioral health program which offers confidential
assessment and counseling services for personal

job performance. The program assists employees
in identifying and resolving personal concerns such
as health, marital, work, family, financial, alcohol,
drug, legal, emotional, stress, or other personal
concerns. An unlimited Work/Life component
assists time-pressed employees and family mem-
bers in their search for the right child care, elder
care, pet care or college assistance and provides

For 2012-13
In our fourth year, the Wellness Council will be
focusing on encouraging all employees to become
involved with the following:
1. The Passport to Wellness Program.
This pro-
gram is sponsored by the Department of Human
Resources. This program will encourage employees
to participate in various programs on campus and
receive a stamp on the passport for doing so.
2. The Weight of the Nation.
This outstanding pro-
gram will occur in January and takes a hard look at
the nation’s obesity epidemic and how we can col-
lectively solve this problem. This premier is spon-
sored by the Department of Recreation & Wellness
and Kaiser Permanente. In conjunction with this
event, the Department of Recreation &Wellness will
be launching and employee-based incentive program
in January entitled, “Lose to Win” to encourage
healthy, long-term weight loss/management.
3. Increase Your Health Awareness.
You are
strongly encouraged to take the confidential Health
Risk Appraisal (HRA) by going to this link:
http://www.bcbsga.com/health-insurance/health-
and-wellness/hw-overview. This tool will provide
you with excellent feedback about your health and
associated risks.
4. Do Simple Moves Daily!
Yes, it is time to start
moving about the office. Too much sitting negative-
ly impacts our health and health-care costs.
Nationally, the total direct and indirect cost of phys-
ical inactivity is $147 billion! (WELCOA Seminar,
10/25/12, Sean Foy, MA). Doing something is better
than doing nothing. Perform simple moves each
hour during the day: Reach, step, push, pull, squat,
lift, twist, lunge, and balance. Email
Cindylauer@clayton.edu and we will be happy to
come over and teach you (and your department) the
moves!
5. Recycle.
The Wellness Council continues to advo-
cate for the campus recycling program and encour-
ages everyone to become engaged in the effort to
recycle their office paper, bottles, and cans in the
bins located around campus. Not only is this good
for the environment, it is good for Clayton State too
because it saves us money on waste disposal during
these tough economic times.
How Contact Us:
The Council strives to address the
various dimensions of wellness for the campus com-
munity. If we can serve as a resource for you, please
do not hesitate to contact any one of the council
members for assistance.
