Juan Rosado, and senior computer science
major Christine Gardner. Two alumni also
spoke, Colleen Walters (B.S., Nursing,
2012) and Charles Frazier, Jr. (B.A., Middle
Grades Education, 2002). Another faculty
member, Dr. Gary May of the College of
Business, also added his thoughts.
All had similar messages, that Clayton
State had made their dreams real.
What types of dreams does Clayton State
make real? Dreams for first generation
college students like Rosado… dreams for
college athletes like Frazier… dreams for
older or non-traditional students, who
may have almost given up on getting a
college degree like Walters, Gardner and
Frazier… dreams of those who felt that
call to teach like May… and dreams of
former dual enrolled students like Vann.
“For now, I am Clayton State, a school
where dreams are made real,” said
Frazier, a former Clayton State basketball
star who is now assistant principal and
basketball coach at Henderson Middle
School in Jackson, Ga. “How do I know
this? Because they made my dreams real.”
In all cases, what Clayton State and its
people do is strive to make dreams real.
And the key word is “real,” it’s what
Clayton State does best.
As remarkable a series of stories as the in-
person testimonials presented, they were
almost upstaged by an 11-minute video,
shot by another Clayton State graduate,
Christian Bowen (B.A., Communications
and Media Studies, 2007) and the brain-
child of Clayton State Communications
Coordinator Dolores Cox. Featuring a
diverse group of Clayton State students
and faculty expressing their dreams, and
concluding with a tribute to the 2011
NCAA Division II national championship
women’s basketball team, the “Dreams.
Made Real.” video will subsequently be
posted on the Clayton State You Tube
channel for the world to see that Clayton
State is a place where dreams are made
real. Because the Oct. 25 presentation on
the Spivey Hall stage was just the preview
of a remarkable, authentic future that will
define Clayton State going forward.
Clayton State is Dreams. Made Real.
