A Laker Visits Loch Ness
Most people around the Clayton State
University campus know Brett Reichert as
associate director of the International
Student Services Office (ISSO). Given the
growing number of international students
at Clayton State, that’s not surprising.
However, Reichert has another persona…
he’s an Ironman.
On Sept. 30, 2012, in Augusta, Ga.,
Reichert completed a feat beyond the ken of
ordinary mortals – a 70.3 Ironman (also
known as a Half- Ironman) triathlon.
Competing along with 3355 other partici-
pants (yes, there were 3356 people in this
70+ race), Reichert completed the continu-
ous 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and
13.1 mile run (that’s a half marathon by
itself) in 6 hours and 11 minutes, burning
something like 5000 to 6000 calories.
(Note: the time on the clock in the enclosed
photo refers to the overall time since the
starting gun. The race, like the Peachtree
Road Race, was started in waves.)
Reichert reports that he trained for five
months for the event, and that support for
his participation was provided through
“Team in Training,” (TNT) which benefits
the mission of the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society.
“In addition to completing the event, I
raised $5554 as part of our team total of
$158,000,” he says of his accomplish-
ment. “To date, TnT has provided more
than $1.3 billion for research, better treat-
ments, patient support and one day, cures
for blood cancers.
“Along the course that day, I wore a wrist
band with names of honored cancer vic-
tims, including those provided by Clayton
State University employees.”
Reichert is a native of Thomasville, Ga.,
and a graduate of the class of 1986 at
Thomasville High School.

Athletics and her husband John visit-
ed Loch Ness on their recent trip to
Scotland, England and Ireland.
“We had fun with the people on the
small bus, telling them about our
Loch and they wanted to help us spot
his relatives.”
“We took an 11 hour bus tour to the
Highlands and the high points visited
were Loch Ness and Inverness,” reports
Pat.
