Sherwin James Honored by the
National Academic Advising Association
Clayton State University’s Sherwin E.
James, College of Business professional
academic advisor and major mentor coor-
dinator, was recognized at the 2013
Annual Awards Program for Academic
Advising at the National Academic
Advising Association
(NACADA)
Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, Ut.,
as the 2013 Commission and Interest
Group (CIG) Service Award winner for
Advising Specific Populations I Cluster
for contributions to Advising Student
Athletes Commission.
The CIG Service Award is presented to a
NACADAmember who has provided out-
standing service, leadership, and commit-
ment to a specific commission, interest
group, cluster or the CIG Division.
James was also provided with a
Certificate of Appreciation for his leader-
ship and service to NACADA as chair of
the
Advising
Student
Athletes
Commission from 2011 through 2013.
NACADA -- the Global Community for
Academic Advising – was founded in
1979, and promotes quality academic
advising in institutions of higher education.
NACADA is dedicated to the support and
professional growth of academic advisors,
faculty advisors, advising administrators,
and the advising profession. Through its
publications and meetings, NACADA pro-
vides a forum for discussion, debate, and
the exchange of ideas regarding the impor-
tant role of academic advising in higher
education across the world.
The NACADA Annual Awards Program
honors individuals and institutions mak-
ing significant contributions to the field of
academic advising. The program has
grown to honor recipients on an interna-
tional level.
