College of Business Starting Major Mentor Program
The College of Business (COB) is in the
process of embarking a new career devel-
opment focus program called the COB
Major Mentor Program. This program
will provide a sense of direction and assist
pre-business students with a better choice
in selecting a Bachelor of Business
Administration (BBA) major that is suit-
able to their need. Presently, the coordina-
tor for this program is Sherwin E. James,
M.Ed.
The COB Major Mentor program is
designed to aid existing, new, and transfer
students with adjusting to Clayton State
University by pairing these students with
an upper classman in the College of
Business BBA program who serves as a
mentor throughout the semester. The men-
tors will participate in supporting the
diverse culture of students at Clayton
State University by providing resources
and one-on-one meetings to assist in
social, personal, and academic explo-
ration.
The College of Business has five BBA
majors in our program and each BBA
major has a specific mentor designated to
the program. The BBA majors are;
Accounting,
General
Business,
Management, Marketing, and Supply
Chain Management. Students interested in
participating in this program should email
COBMajorMentor@mail.clayton.edu or
SherwinJames@mail.clayton.edu.
This year, people all over Fayette County
are reading “The Heart is a Lonely
Hunter.” That’s because the Fayette
County Public Library’s (1821 Heritage
Park Way, Fayetteville) annual Fayette on
the Page program is focusing on the work
of Georgia author Carson McCullers,
specifically “The Heart is a Lonely
Hunter,” for 2012.
This year’s program will feature, through-
out August and September, a series of
three films based on works by McCullers.
These three films will be screened free of
charge for the public at the Fayette
County Public Library, and will include
two Clayton State University professors
sharing their time and expertise, hosting
the screenings and then facilitating Q&A
sessions after the screenings. Professor of
English Dr. Gwendolyn Harold, and
Associate Professor of English Dr.
Brigitte Byrd are both taking part in this
year’s program.
Each film will be shown twice in one
week, on a Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m.,
and on the following Saturday at 3 p.m.
Harold, an expert on Southern Literature,
hosted screenings on Aug. 14 and Aug.
18, and will return on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at
6:30 p.m., to introduce and facilitate dis-
cussion of another McCullers-based film.
Note: The library is
prohibited from
publicizing
the
actual titles of the
films outside of the
library -- a stipula-
tion of the per-
formance license
purchased annually
in order to show
movies to the pub-
lic. Contact the
Fayette
County
Public Library at

and ask for film
titles. A printed
schedule for the
Fayette on the Page
2012 Film Series,
including
film
titles and descrip-
tions, is also avail-
able for pickup at
the library.
Byrd, a Fayetteville resident, will help
close out the McCullers film series on
Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m., with an intro-
duction to the final film in the series, fol-
lowed by a facilitated discussion.
“Dr. Harold’s presence this past Tuesday
enhanced the audience’s viewing experi-
ence a great deal, and we are looking for-
ward to the rest of her appearances, as
well as Dr. Byrd’s,” says the Fayette
County Public Library’s Public Services
Librarian Sarah Trowbridge. “We are so
grateful to be able to count on the expert
assistance of Clayton State’s faculty
whenever we need a little academic
‘something extra’ for our programs here at
the public library.”
