Trivia Time
Trivia Time
Second Chance
by John Shiffert, University Relations
In an unprecedented happening,
Trivia Time gave the respondents to
the previous issue’s question
(Speaking of movies about the
Beatles, what does John Lennon ask
the crusty old gentleman in the train
compartment in “A Hard Day’s
Night?”), a second chance.
As it turned out, enough responses
with the same wrong answer came in
to demand a review of the facts. It
turns out that the repartee in question
was between the old gentleman and
Ringo Starr, not John Lennon. In
other words, the wrong member of
the Fab Four was identified in the
original question.
Having thus backtracked, Deborah
Carey and Rob Taylor came up with
the desired answer. To set the
scene… John, Paul, George and
Ringo are sitting in a train compart-
ment with an elderly gentleman who
clearly doesn’t approve of their
Beatles hair cuts. Says the old-timer,
“I fought the war for your sort.”
(Meaning World War II, in case
you’re interested.) It’s Ringo who
replies, “I bet you’re sorry you
won.”
Having messed up the previous
question, it’s best to stick with a cer-
tainty. One of the highlights of the
just-completed Olympics were the
opening ceremonies, where Sir Paul
himself brought down the house
with “Hey Jude.” However, the cere-
monies’ opening song, “Jerusalem,”
initially performed solo by a boy
soprano, was equally a classic
British musical number and, in fact,
also played a role in a noted film
about Britain and the Olympics.
What was that film?
