CLAYTON STATE UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION MAKING DREAMS A REALITY
Founded in 1974, the Clayton State Uni- versity Foundation exists to success- fully support the university in making dreams a reality. The board consists of more than 25 community members, local business leaders and philanthropists.
“It really means a great deal to be involved with Clayton State. As an alumnus, I really under- stand that my degree has helped me get where I am in life. I have obtained so many great friendships here and I have two daughters with solid educations from this University. Any part I can play in helping others achieve an education means a great deal to me,” expresses current Vice-Chair Tim Crawford.
Alongside Crawford, Leonard Moreland serves as chairman with Dr. Cephus Jackson and Starr Helms rounding out the executive committee as secretary/treasurer and assistant secretary/trea- surer, respectively.
Board members serve as advocates in the community to increase awareness of opportunities for involvement and support at the University. These leaders also support the university by attending cam- pus events, such as faculty and staff service awards day, the hot dog rally, and homecoming. Addition- ally, they organize and attend fundraising and donor recognition events designed to embrace and expand the spirit of Clayton State.
“The trustees in recent years have stretched themselves to advance Clayton State University, es- pecially through the formation of limited liability companies to build Laker Hall and the Student Ac- tivities Center, and to purchase Clayton Station,” says Director of Development Reda Rowell.
The Foundation understands the economic de- velopment impact of the University and realizes the value that a comprehensive University brings to our community.
“As a resident of Clayton County and educator it is important to me to support the higher learning
opportunities of this region. I feel Clayton State and the public school system can create meaningful rela- tionships to benefit the future generations. I hope to help support a seamless transition into continuing ed- ucation and higher learning,” says Jackson.
Watching dreams go from idea to reality, and helping wherever possible is the goal of the Clayton

State Foundation Board.
“I’ve been thrilled to be part of Clayton State
University, watch it grow from a community dream, and expand impressively over the years,” James M. Wood, Jr., explains. He is the lone remaining found- ing member of the Board of Trustees.
Proceeds of the Foundation’s fundraising ef- forts are used for many projects and initiatives on campus, with the largest single initiative being the Honors Program. More than $625,000 in Honors and Presidential scholarships has been awarded over the past 10 years. Last year, more than 70 students re- ceived this prestigious award. Contributions given to the Excellence Fund are primarily used to support the Honors program.
