“In 2008, the HUB also won the
Chancellor’s Silver Award for Customer
Service,” notes Clayton State Vice
President for Information Technology and
Services Dr. John Bryan. “In the next
decade, the HUB will continue to evolve
world-class support for new forms of
mobile
ubiquitous
Information
Technologies.”
The HUB is the technical support for the
campus, including satellite locations. The
HUB is comprised of 35 student workers,
six full-time staff, and one director under
the division of the Office of Information
Technology and Services (OITS). The
HUB works as Level One and Level Two
support for other departments within
OITS. Its charge is to provide technologi-
cal support to approximately 7,150 stu-
dents and 1,000 faculty and staff.
The USG Computing Conference pro-
vides the opportunity for technology pro-
fessionals and technology users through-
out the System to exchange information
with their peers and gain an accurate pic-
ture of the current and future state of tech-
nology.
Alumni
Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge
has announced that Jay Connelly is its
new emergency department director.
Connelly first began his career in the
health care field 20 years ago after gradu-
ating from Clayton State with a bachelor’s
degree in nursing.
Athletics
The Clayton State women’s cross country
won the 2012 Peach Belt Conference
Championship earlier this month, and
along with their success on the playing
field, several members of the team are
also starring in the classroom. The Laker
women’s squad had four runners named to
the 2012 Peach Belt All-Academic squad,
two to the first team and two to the honor-
able mention squad. Senior Paige Galvin
and junior Samantha Walling were both
named to the first-team All-Academic
squad, and sophomores Jessica Smith and
Maia Kuhnen were also recognized as
honorable mention members of the All-
Academic team.

The Clayton State women’s soccer team
captured its 10th win of the season on
Wednesday, Oct. 24, blanking Peach Belt
Conference rival Young Harris 3-0 on
Senior Night at Laker Field. Junior mid-
fielder Pearl Slattery provided the offen-
sive spark, scoring two goals in the win.
The Lakers improved to 10-6-2 on the
season and 6-3-2 in the Peach Belt stand-
ings. The Clayton State men’s soccer team
also downed Young Harris on Senior
Night, 2-1. Senior midfielder Bobby
Dodd scored his first career goal for the
team in his last match regular season
match as a Laker and junior Kevin
Rodriquez scored his third goal of the
year off a pass from midfielder Nomis
Cisic. The win improved Clayton State to
7-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in conference
play.
International Programs
Director of International Programs John
Parkerson attended a very high-level din-
ner celebration Thursday, Oct. 18 in
Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Institute for
Peace. The dinner celebrated the 56th
anniversary of Hungary’s 1956 revolution
and was hosted by the Embassy of
Hungary. Speakers included, in addition
to Hungarian Ambassador Szapáry,
Foreign Minister of Hungary Martonyi,
former Secretary of Defense Donald
Rumsfeld, former New York Governor
Pataki, and Congressman Mario Diaz-
Balart (Republican-Florida). Parkerson,
as honorary consul for Hungary for the
southeastern Unites States was one of the
invited guests.
Library
The Clayton State Library invites you to
participate in our fall faculty and staff sur-
vey. We are seeking feedback regarding
the library’s resources and services and
how we can improve them. Please take
10-15 minutes to offer your input, which
we will consider in planning and budget-
ing decisions and as we write our narra-
tives for SACS. Previous survey results
have led to an additional book return loca-
tion and a popular reading collection. The
survey will be open until Nov. 16 and is

SBDC
The Clayton State University Small
Business Development Center (SDBC)
will be holding a workshop for online
marketing, “Links, Likes, & Friends: Get
Started with Online Marketing” at the
Henry County Chamber of Commerce,
1709 Highway 20 West, McDonough,
Ga., on Friday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is
$69 for the general public, $59 for Henry
Chamber members. Lunch will be provid-

Under Dickson’s direction, Literacy
Action will continue to focus on provid-
ing programming for adults seeking liter-
acy and work skills, and raising awareness
on low-literacy in the Atlanta region and
throughout Georgia.
