their own way,” he says. “I try to chal-
lenge my students, but I am never too far
away if or when they need support.”
Dr. Anthony J. Giovannitti, professor and
chair of the Department of Mathematics at
Clayton State, recognizes Raridan’s suc-
cess as a mentor for his students.
“The role of University Professor is multi-
layered, not only is there the expectation
to be a good teacher, but the professor
must be willing to mentor and encourage
students to engage in the subject area,” he
says. “The University Professor also has
an obligation to broaden the field of
knowledge that he or she is actively
engaged in.
“Chris has shown that he can and does do
all of this.”
Awarded to faculty members who exem-
plify the Clayton State educational experi-
ence – empowering, engaging, inclusive
and supportive – the University
Professorships are managed by the
Clayton State Office of Academic Affairs.
Six Clayton State faculty members are
named University Professors each year,
with the awarded faculty carrying the title
of, “University Professor,” for two years,
allowing up to 12 faculty to have the dis-
tinction at any given time. This recogni-
tion, first given in April 2014, comes with
a $5,000 annual salary supplement. The
Clayton State University Foundation
assisted in creating the monetary supple-
ment by creating a matching dollar-for-
dollar gifts program.
nates the application of the MOU with Dr
Hyen-sook Jeon, dean, School of Nursing
and Bongnam Lee, director, International
Programs, of Daejeon Health Sciences.
Eichelberger reports that Daejeon nursing
students have already begun to apply for
admission to the School of Nursing at
Clayton State. Daejeon students who
apply to Clayton State will most likely be
entering the RN-to-BSN program.
The MOU for activities between the two
institutions’ colleges of business outlines
a partnership which will enable students
from Daejeon finishing their associates
degree in business to come to Clayton
State to complete their B.S. degrees in
business, says Hynes.
Clayton State Dream Catcher Honorees
by Erin Fender
Each month, Clayton State recognizes

faculty and staff can log in at www.clay-
ton.edu/brand.
Ryan Whitfield, Assistant Director of
Career Services:
“From the initial introduction, Ryan
shows a sincere interest in who you are
and what is important to you. As a result,
individuals are glad to know him. The
linkages that Mr. Whitfield creates for the
students is immeasurable to helping stu-
dents gain comfort and confidence with
meeting, talking to, and working with
employers for full-time career and part-
time work.”
The Laker Card Center Staff:
Shaneeka Grant, Julie Coile, Giang
Phan, Regennia Shephard
“They touch the campus community on
all levels. They have a very diverse staff.
They help students with money manage-
ment (LakerBucks, Bookstore Bucks,
Higher One refunds, meal plans) and edu-
cate them on how to navigate all the dif-
ferent accounts they have. The entire staff
goes above and beyond to help students,
even when it isn’t under their domain of
responsibility.”
Jennifer Welch, AmeriCorps Program
Coordinator
“The AmeriCorps program as whole is a
great opportunity for any student that is
currently still in high school to have a real
college experience. My son has participat-
ed faithfully in this program for two years.
Within this time his leadership and team
building skills have been groomed in
ways that I could have never imagined.
Thank you to the coordinators, staff and
volunteers for making a way for our
future to realize that their dreams can
come true.”
Ron Dulaney, professor of management
“Ron's passion and sincere desire to help
students understand the world of work is
contagious. He has been a part of the
Career Services Faculty Support Team
and continues to invite us to share our
services with his students every semester.
He truly understands that it takes both the
academic and support services at Clayton
State to make the student experience truly
successful!”
William Bedingfield, Groundskeeper
III
“Facilities Management feels that Will
falls into the Supportive Community cate-
gory of the Dream Catcher’s program.
Will not only supports his coworkers and
friends at Clayton State University by
being both a leader and a role model, but
he is also always present to participate in
events that support our local communi-
ties.”
Dr. Lisa Eichelberger, Dean of the
College of Health
Nominated by Colleen Walters, “Thanks
to Dr. Eichelberger, I have found my
niche in the nursing profession; to become
a nurse educator who excels in teaching,
scholarship, advocacy, leadership, and
service. Dr. Eichelberger saw something
in me that would make a great nurse edu-
cator and recommended me for the amaz-
ing opportunity to receive a Georgia
Regent grant.”
Dr. Debra Cody, Assistant Professor of
Nursing
A student recently wrote this email to her
colleagues and Dean in the College of
Health, “If there is a such thing as being
an "ideal nursing professor" she is it! She
is very good at what she does. Very ener-
getic in the class room. She smiles all the
time and embraces learning."
Lashay Taylor, Career Counselor
“Lashay Taylor empowers students to
excel beyond their imagination by impart-
ing knowledge that has proven crucial to
their success! She encourages career testing
and other creative means of evaluation to
effectively help students determine their
strengths and weaknesses and establish a
compatible career choice! She is encourag-
ing, knowledgeable, and connects with the
students in a very unique way, which is con-
sistently reflected in the evaluations that
she receives following workshops and other
activities that she conducts.”
