Battling a stitch over the final half of the
NCAA
Division
II
National
Championships, cross country runner Job
Kemboi placed 89th at the national meet
in Spokane, Wash. Kemboi started strong
and was in the top-40 early in the race of
almost 250 runners but fell behind after
the midway point of the 10K race. He fin-
ished with a time of 32:05.9, which was
still his second fastest time in the 10K.
The sophomore runner was in the 41st
spot after the first 5K, running a split of
15:19.5 in the opening half of the race
before being hampered by the stitch.
Kemboi, from Eldoret, Kenya, qualified
for the meet as an individual after setting
a Clayton State record in the 10K with a
time of 31:09.85 at the NCAA Division II
Southeast Regionals.

The Clayton State women's soccer season
came to close with a tough loss in the
NCAA Division II Women's Soccer
Championships, falling 1-0 to rival
Columbus State in Wingate, N.C.
Columbus State midfielder Chelsea
Person scored the game-winner 10 min-
utes into the game and the score held up
for the remainder of the match. The
Lakers best chance to equalize the match
came midway through the second half
when
Laker
midfielder
Melissa
Hetherington drilled a shot from just out-
side the box. A spectacular diving save by
Columbus State keeper Maylynn Parsons
kept the match from being locked at one
apiece. Columbus State held a 13-6
advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge on cor-
ner kicks. Laker keeper Charlotte
McCormack finished the match with three
saves, while Parsons had two. The loss for
Clayton State snapped a school record 16-
match unbeaten streak for the Lakers. The
2013 season for the Lakers was a special
one, as the program won the Peach Belt
Conference regular season and PBC
Tournament Championships for only the
second time in school history.
