Clayton State to Launch Digital
Film Technician Certificate Program in February 2014

Put your dance shoes on and get ready to
move. Clayton State University is bring-
ing music, technique and choreography to
the classroom for any student with an
interest to learn.
Beginning spring 2014, a dance minor
will be offered to any and all students who
have a passion for dance or just simply
want to learn about the art. Multiple class-
es will be offered that teach the funda-
mentals of ballet, jazz and modern dance
as well as technique classes that will be
offered as elective classes.
There has been a major increase in enroll-
ment in the performing arts programs at
Clayton State, and many faculty and staff
have suggested a dance program might be
a good addition to the department.
College of Arts & Sciences Dean Dr.
Nasser Momayezi’s interest in the col-
lege’s VPA (Visual and Performing Arts)
program stems from his strong efforts to
make these new courses possible.
Kathleen Kelley, assistant professor of
Musical Theatre and Dance, who has 25
years of dance experience, will be the
instructor and is currently teaching two
dance courses already. Kelly and Director
of Opera and Vocal Studies Dr. Kurt-
Alexander Zeller wrote the proposal for
the new minor.
“I expect people to join who either want
to begin dance or want to get back into
dance even though it may not be their
major” says Kelly. Fifty to 60 percent of
the students in her current dance courses
are not theatre majors, but have consid-
ered continuing their dance experience
with this new minor.
A few of the courses that will be offered
are Dance History, Dance Performance
and some technique courses.
“I am glad dance is being added. It will
make the VPA more intriguing and add a
different element that no one at the col-
lege has seen,” says Clayton State student
Amanda Parham. “These courses will
allow the students to not only learn about
the history of dance, but they will have the
opportunity to learn the fundamentals of
dance as well as execute what they have
learned through writing and dance per-
formances that will be required of them
throughout the semester.”
If dance is something that sparks an inter-
est, put on your dance shoes and get ready
move. Take a break from the typical lec-
ture courses and enroll in a dance course
that will provide dance knowledge and an
abundance of fun!
The Division of Continuing Education at
Clayton State University will be launch-
ing a new program in February 2014 that
will have a major impact on individuals,
economic development and a growing
industry in metro Atlanta… and provide
another way to make dreams real.
The Digital Film Technician Certificate
program is a two-course program with
day and evening classes that is designed
to introduce students to production of dig-
ital media and film. Digital Film Tech
Training I, scheduled to launch in
February 2014, is designed for students
with no background in digital media, as
well as those students with some experi-
ence or coursework in the field. Digital
Film Tech II, which will start in the sum-
mer of 2014, is a follow-up course
designed to help students achieve a level
of film/media production skills that will
promote employability and/or the ability
to become independent contractors.
Both courses are designed, and will be
taught by, Barton Bond, who comes to
Clayton State from New Mexico with 45
years of experience working in electronic
media, the last 25 years being teaching on
the college level. Beginning in 1987 at
Santa Fe Community College, Bond
developed academic programs in elec-
tronic media production and digital
media. In 2003 he developed and taught
the first, and to date the only, film techni-
cian training program in the country, a
program created in response to a pressing
need for qualified crew members to staff
the numerous Hollywood-based films
being shot in New Mexico.
