Input Requested on Clayton State’s
Complete College Georgia Plan
by Micheal Crafton, Provost
tially appointed 12-member board that is
responsible for establishing worldwide
policies for the Fulbright Program and for
selection of Fulbright recipients.
Hollowell’s grant is made possible
through funds that are appropriated annu-
ally by the U.S. Congress and, in many
cases, by contributions from partner coun-
tries and/or the private sector.

You have heard how under the
Governor’s request, the Chancellor
and his staff have required that we put
together a plan for increasing the num-
ber of graduates in the state. The idea
is that we need to increase our number
of degrees by about 250,000 by the
year 2020. That is, we, as a state, need
to increase the number of citizens with
a post-secondary credential to a num-
ber that is 250,000 above what we are
projecting now.
This movement, Complete College
Georgia, is part of a larger movement,

What is asked of us is a good and noble
thing, but not simple or easy. We need to
reach out where we can to increase the
number of students who might earn a cre-
dential, and we need to do what we can to
assist students in achieving that creden-
tial. So we are asked to look at things like
increasing the volume of students receiv-
ing AP or CLEP credit and to look at
revising our remediation programs to look
at ways to remove obstacles in the path of
transfer students and so forth.
We learned of this task only a few weeks
ago, it seems; I believe it was March when
we got our orders. I have asked Dr. Mark
Daddona to take the lead in working with
the deans and others to create a plan that
we must submit to the Chancellor’s
Office by July 1. It is meant to be a pro-
posal not a final statement. If you have
a chance to look at it (the working draft
was sent to all faculty and staff via
email on June 19) and make comments
to Daddona, please do so. After July 1
when we get a little more reaction from
the BOR staff, we will take parts of the
plan out to everyone for further elabo-
ration.
During the general faculty meeting in
the fall, we can discuss this further and
talk about the implications.

President Dr. Thomas J. Hynes.
“Professor Hollowell’s award recognizes
her contributions as teacher and scholar,
and brings praise for her and Clayton

is our colleague.”

And, just to illustrate his versatility in
front of all audiences, in the early 1980's
he was the incomparable "Dr. Gizmo," on
member of the Society for the Study of
Social Problems, Hollowell was awarded
the 2010 Equity & Social Justice
Advocacy Award from the National
Association for Multicultural Education

Clayton State faculty member, Assistant
Professor of Teacher Education Dr. Mari

sense of humor and impeccable timing
made learning about technology and
physics easy and fun for the kids; a trade-
mark he carried to the Clayton State, as is
undoubtedly making available to the
Chinese, if needed.
