Trivia Time
Grover
Cleveland’s
Secret
by John Shiffert, University Relations
Everyone knows that Grover
Cleveland was the only president to
serve non-consecutive terms.
But, not everyone knows that, dur-
ing his second term, and during a
period of financial crisis at least as
bad as the Reagan or W recessions,
he underwent a secret oral surgical
procedure on a private yacht off of
Long Island. Although Facebook
and Twitter weren’t around then, it
was feared that the news that the
president had to undergo a poten-
tially serious surgery for what was
thought to be a carcinoma would
throw the economy into an even
steeper decline. So the surgery was
hushed up.
Among those who did hear about it
were; Lou Brackett, Kathy
Garrison, Kurt-Alexander Zeller,
Scott McElroy, Rob Taylor, B.D.
Stillion and Jill Ellington.
Just like everyone knows the
Cleveland was the only non-con-
secutive president, everyone knows
(or at least they should know) that
one of the great pitchers in baseball
history was named after Cleveland.
The question at hand then is, who
played that pitcher in a really bad
film biopic? Send your answers,
not to Baker Bowl, but to
johnshiffert@clayton.edu.
