Clayton State Celebrates
National Student Employment Week
Earth Week at Clayton State
Highlighted by Art Contest and Clean Up Efforts
The recent Earth Week Celebration at
Clayton State University was highlighted
by an art contest, a campus clean up event
and conservation efforts by and on behalf
of Clayton State Dining. All of the Earth
Week activities were sponsored by
Sodexo and the Go Green student organi-
zation.
Approximately 20 Clayton State students
participated in the campus clean up. The
students spilt up into smaller groups and
each group picked up trash in a designat-
ed area of the campus. The event was
coordinated by the Go Green organiza-
tion, but students from the Clayton State
Honors Society and the Clayton State
Baptist Collegiate Ministries also partici-
pated.
The results of Clayton State Dining's
Think Green Celebration Recycle Art
Contest were as follows:
First Place: "My Candid Camera," sub-
mitted by Aaron Panlilio (Jonesboro)
Second Place: "Float Away," submitted by
Amber Nguyen (Morrow)
Third Place: "Phoenix Flower," submitted
by Brandon Campbell (Morrow)
Fourth Place: "Sea Boat," submitted by
Mark Morrow (Jonesboro)
The art contest was looking for the best
“trash-formation.” Participants were
encouraged to express their artistic ability
using recyclable materials to create art.
Panlilio’s grand prize was a mini-fridge
filled with Coca-Cola product.
Other Earth Week initiatives included;
Grounds for Growth (using recycled coffee
grounds for composting), the Choose To
Reuse Discount (35 cents off anyone using
their own travel mug for a drink), Lights Out
(the Lakeside Dining Hall went without
lights for a day), and PB&J Day.
Clayton State recently celebrated National
Student Employment Week.
Sponsored by the Clayton State Office of
Career Services, the week was an initia-
tive to say “thank you” to all of the stu-
dents who work so diligently on campus,
as well as congratulate those who work
off-campus too.
“It is not an easy task balancing work and
school, and we find that our students do a
fantastic job,” says Natasha Woodall,
Career Services’ coordinator of student
employment.
The week’s activities included cake hand-
out and photos with Clayton State mascot
“Loch” on Monday, a Chick-fil-AResume
Review on Wednesday, and a Thursday
Pop-A-Paloooza. Departments throughout
the University expressed appreciation to
student workers by decorating doors or shar-
ing cards and thank-you gifts. Students who
participated in a Student Employment Week
event had their names entered into a raffle
drawing to receive a Best Buy gift card. The
winner was Jerrod Raymond.
“As far as we know, this is the first time
the University has celebrated National
Student Employment Week,” says Director
of Career Services Dr. Angelyn Hayes.
“Students seemed to really be grateful for
the recognition from the University and
their departments. We look forward to hon-
oring student employees annually.”
