Friends with Boys, and Pure are set. She

Clayton
State
University’s popular
Visiting
Writer’s
Reading Series is
returning for another
semester under the
direction
of
Associate Professor
of English Dr.
Brigitte Byrd.
The first reader of the spring semester will
be young adult fiction author Terra Elan
Dr. Leon Prieto, assistant professor of
Management in the College of Business at
Clayton State University, recently co-
authored an editorial column for the “Last
Word” section of “Diverse: Issues in
Higher Education” magazine.
Prieto, writing along with Macon State
College
Assistant
Professor
of
Management Dr. Simone Phipps, had the
column “Battle of the Sexes: Why do men
outnumber women in Entrepreneurship?”
published in the Jan. 3 issue, appearing
on-line at http://mydigimag.rrd.com/pub-
lication/?i=140845&p=24.
Based on a 2009 study by the Center for
Women’s Business Research, Prieto and
Phipps list three main reasons why men
outnumber women in entrepreneurship;
women had significantly fewer entrepre-
neurial intentions than men, women per-
ceive themselves to be significantly less
creative than men perceive themselves,
and fewer non-traditional undergraduate
students were women.

As an added bonus, the race will also
include admission to come-one, come-all
Annual Alumni Breakfast, which starts at
9:30 a.m., and runs to 11 a.m., also at the
Harry S. Downs Center.
One of our featured events for this year’s
Homecoming is the return of the
Homecoming Parade, starting promptly at
11 a.m. The parade will start at the
Morrow Municipal Complex (Morrow
City Hall) and proceed northbound on
Hwy 54/Jonesboro Road, turning right on
Clayton State Boulevard, and ending on
campus in parking lots C & D. It is the
Homecoming Committee’s hope that this
will be an event that the campus and local
community can participate in and be
proud to support.
Student organizations and campus depart-
ments are encouraged to enter a unit in the
parade. You may build a float, decorate a
truck/car, walk with a banner or any other
expression of creativity and originality
you can think of — the choice is yours!

Tailgate/Homecoming Festival, which
will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the park-
ing lot of the Student Activities Center.
That’s a warm-up for a couple of high-
level basketball games, which are sched-
uled for 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. In the
first game, the Clayton State women, the
2011 NCAA Division II national champi-
ons and currently ranked fourth in the
nation, will take on Montevallo. In the
second game, the 2012 NCAA Division II
runner-up Montevallo men will take on
the Lakers in a 5:30 p.m. start. The men’s
game will include the crowning of the
Homecoming king and queen at halftime.
Also on Saturday, starting at 8 p.m., the
Clayton State Alumni Association will
hold an Alumni Social at PinStrikes in
Stockbridge, Ga.
